Frequently Asked Questions

Can we have examples of the plastics that we can collect?

You can find examples in our pre-engagement zoom recording via https://linktr.ee/recyclingheroessg.

Or take a look here.

How will the plastics recyclables be measured and calculated?

Our logistics partner will weigh the recyclables on-site for each school. This will be updated on the ALBA app monthly.

Is there a minimum amount of plastic waste needed for collection?

There is no minimum amount for collection. However, if schools wish to cancel their collection, you can call 800 Super (via their hotline) 3 days before your scheduled collection day.

Is there any possibility for us to know how our collection has been recycled?

Yes, we intend to provide transparency. The plan, as of 7 Jun 2022, is that all of the waste plastic collected will be mechanically recycled.

When will the collection take place and who can I contact?

The collection will take place by school zones. We will provide a hotline to contact our logistics partner – 800 Super.

Can the bin be collected earlier if it fills up fast?

Based on feedback from waste collectors, weekly collection should suffice as the bin size is large. However, if there is a need to clear it ahead of our scheduled collection, feel free to reach out to us and we will try to accommodate your request.

Will you be able to provide small blue bins so that each classroom will have one?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to do so. However, we can link you up with other bin suppliers!

Would it be possible to deliver the recycling bin to my school a week earlier?

Sure, we can accommodate this request. We will reach out to schools that have signed up in end May to discuss when is a good time to deploy these bins.

May I know the dates for the 3 board meetings, 2 learning sessions and 1 chat with industry expert for the ease of our planning?

We are in the midst of confirming our key activities and will share this with the schools that have signed up in end May. By mid-June, we should have a tentative dates for each of these activities.

Can I check if P6/P5 students can attend this programme?

Yes!

For the engagement programme, does this refer to talks that will be given to the school, and what other activities are included?

In the engagement programmme, we have planned for 3 board meetings, a few talks conducted by our partner companies, a (virtual) learning journey, and a chat with CEO for now. We may add more to the programme at a later date.

Each participating school will have 2 slots per activity. They can choose to send their 2 selected ambassadors or any 2 students of their choice.

For the 2 ambassadors, do they need an accompanying teacher when they attend activities?

We high encourage teachers or parent volunteers to join the sessions. This way, they can co-create and provide guidance to the students but this is not a requirement on our end.

Could the ambassador or engagement programme be extended to more students instead of just the two selected ones?

Yes, the 15-week ambassadorship programme for 2 selected students per school is optional. If your school would like to allow more students to join the engagement activities on an ad-hoc basis, please pick OPTION 2 in the confirmation form.

That being said, we restricted the number of slots for the 15-week programme (OPTION 3) as it was meant to be an intensive mentorship journey to help students figure out how to recycle plastics better. During the 15-week, we imagined that students will be closely mentored by staff from our partner companies and attend monthly board meetings. Due to its high intensity, we do not feel we have the bandwidth to open up more slots at this moment.

In contrast, we could open up 2 slots per school for every activity or event and have different students join us each session if your school opts for OPTION 2. As usual, do ping me your feedback if you have other suggestions!

What is the level of commitment from the school’s end?

You may pick your school’s preferred level of commitment. Schools are given three options:

OPTION 1: Plastic Collection Programme ONLY
Schools will allow us to place a bin and collect plastics every week. We will work together to answer queries about which plastics are recyclable and which are not.

OPTION 2: Plastic Collection & Engagement Programme – will partake in activities on an ad-hoc basis.
Apart from the collection of plastics, we will invite schools for events / workshops / talks by our partner companies. Schools can select 2 students per event. We are also open to other specific requests and will try our best to accede to them.

OPTION 3: Plastic Collection & Engagement Programme – will send 2 Ambassadors.
Apart from the collection of plastics, 2 selected students will be part of an intensive 15-week mentorship programme where they will have monthly board meetings to learn from other ambassadors and be mentored by staff from our partner companies. These two students will be empowered to own the project, mentored by people who are in the industry and recognised for their efforts at the end of the 15-week cycle.

Please indicate your preferred level of commitment in the confirmation of interest form via https://linktr.ee/recyclingheroessg. As usual, please ping me your feedback if you have other suggestions!

Where can I confirm my school’s interest to participate?

Fill in this confirmation of interest form via https://linktr.ee/recyclingheroessg

Do hurry as we are only accepting 15 Secondary Schools and 15 Primary Schools for this pilot round!

I can’t find an answer to my question.
